Help Children to Return to School
Starting school after a long vacation or a new school can be stressful for children. After a long two years of staying home due to COVID 19 pandemic, it is even harder to send them again to school. It is also challenging for children to get adjusted to the new ambiance of school. Some children will return to school having experienced some level of stress, anxiety, isolation, and grief. According to a Daycare expert, school staff will need to support students in the transition back to the classroom, and at the same time manage their transition and anxiety.
A Childcare expert in a primary school in Chino Hills CA says that a child does best in school when he attends school after a night of adequate sleep. If the child does not sleep well, he will not do well in school. He cannot focus and become ill-tempered. Most of the child’s sleep patterns, habits, and quality have changed during the lockdown and these changes may create difficulty in getting back to school. Get your children back into the routine of early waking up in the morning and going back to bed early at night before they return to school. To return to the routine, do not let them nap during the day, avoid screen time at least an hour before going to bed. Develop a routine and firmly follow it. Start to practice this routine at least one month before the children start going to school. This routine will help children to do well in school.
Covid 19 pandemic had a negative impact on everybody including the small children. Teachers in school need to listen to the children’s concerns and demonstrate understanding as well as empathy. Support them, encourage them and praise them for being courageous in this pandemic state.
Provide children with the right information about Covid 19 pandemic. Tell them how to fight this disease following proper hygiene methods. Children may want to know about the disease. Provide them with age-appropriate information. Remind children of school safety protocol.
To keep the children in good mood encourage play and sports to promote interaction between students. Make sure that when children return to school, they have lots of opportunities to socialize, play and interact with their peers. Caregivers at US schools try their best to keep children in good mood in the school.
